The Temecula Valley
Wineries
Temecula’s first commercial wineries were opened in the 1960’s, but Spanish priests began planting the area’s first vines in the 1800’s. Twenty award-winning wineries now dot 3,000 acres of vineyards in the Temecula Valley. The valley’s dry, warm daytime climate paired with cool nighttime ocean breezes creates ideal grape-growing conditions. Twenty-two miles from the Pacific Ocean and 1,500 feet above sea level, Temecula’s wineries flourish in the only major viticultural area south of Los Angeles.
Temecula’s wineries produce award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc, but specialize in Viognier, Syrah, and Pinot Gris varietals. These locally-made wines are best sampled at the wineries. Tasting rooms and gift shops are open year round and also offer a variety of special events, such a harvest grape-stomping and summertime jazz in the vines.
